Gil Taylor, the British cinematographer who made shadow war look ominous and silly while giving glorious cheese that otherworldly glow, has died at the age of 99. His long life included work on the aforementioned Dr. Strangelove and Flash Gordon, as well as giving A Hard Day's Night it's flair for time-lapsed bright fun, and fighting George Lucas to make Star Wars look as it did when it was released. His work will live on, special editions be damned. All other news seems to have been scared off by the rise of Batfleck, and the reactions have been about what I expected.
More reviews and the next In Appreciation piece coming this weekend. Relax with a fine flick!
