Fiona Apple covered "Pure Imagination" from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory to help promote an app-game for Chipotle and is paired with an animated video about a scarecrow and plastic people. That's a sentence that would normally strike fear into my heart, but the results are actually very good.
The rush to remake all the films of Park Chan-Wook's Vengeance trilogy continues with Hany Abu-Assad (Paradise Now) taking the reigns for the Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance remake. This is a much better alignment of director to source material than the Oldboy remake from Spike Lee that has me very nervous.
J.K. Rowling is doing a prequel of sorts for the Harry Potter franchise that will be made directly for the screen - at least until there's the novelization, which will then be adapted, and eventually disappear into itself like so many other flights of fantasy.
Here's a trailer for Grudge Match from the director of Get Smart. The sight of De Niro and Stallone in those green suits is a chuckle worthy of checking out the trailer. Then there's this trailer for Homefront, featuring Jason Statham doing that thing Statham does, and James Franco doing whatever the hell he wants. The way it turns into an action film at the end is to be expected, but hilarious in a way I don't think was intended.
Kyle and I are taking a break from Tarkovsky tomorrow to discuss Steven Soderbergh's take on Solaris.
